madjazz asked:

Our internet is via cable modem. We would like to have two computers hooked up in the same area (living room) but in opposite ends of the room. We both want to be on the internet at the same time, as my internet time is growing and her time (with just one computer) is getting squeezed.

I think we have a few options, but for right now, both will be hard-wired (Both are desktops). So should I:

Get a router and a really long ethernet cable and hook the 2nd computer up that way?

OR

Patch into the actual TV-feed cable via splitter and buy a 2nd modem? (2nd computer is really close to our TV/entertainment system). Will this work?

Also, since I’m going hardwired, I’m really looking for a budget solution. I’m not looking for a $200+ home network here…so I don’t need the latest/fastest/coolest anything, just something that is average or was pretty good in 2006 or so…

Thanks!

one year mba programs

Anyway, I have it set to 1680×1050 atm, and it works great, and looks AWESOME for browsing the web, or looking at pictures, however, when I play movies they seem to be a bit grainy. Not sure if it’s the movies themselves, the monitor, or my computer. I never experienced thgis problem with my old 15″ CRT monitor. Also, when I hooked my Xbox 360 up via HD VGA cable, it seems like lower quality than when I had it hooked up to my 15″ CRT. Not sure why, maybe it’s that the screen is so big, but just seems really grainy. I went into the Xbox Dashboard in display settings and changed it to a resolution of something like 1360×768 after hooking it up. Any of the preset display’s or custom don’t seem to help too much. Anyone know how I can fix the graininess? Do I need lower resolution or something?

Thanks for the help!

mba study

Anyway didn’t work.
3. Checked and made sure power strip worked (used the same power cable on another power supply and it worked).
4. Disconnected all HDs and modems, adaptors, memory, basically everything except for power switch and connectors to power unit, and still power won’t come on.

However, after all these things were done, I noticed that when I push power switch, the CPU fan turns 1/8 turn and stops (I might have overlooked this before), meaning the power is on (I also accidentally s

hkust mba

Tom asked:

I’m trying to make my friend’s wired network wireless. Right now, they have DSL. A line coming from outside plugs into a ADSL2 Router via RJ-11. It then plugs from the ADSL2 Router to a computer via RJ-45 Ethernet cable.

I’ve recently bought them a Linksys wireless router with an Internet output. However, the Internet output is RJ-45, so it obviously cannot take the RJ-11 cable from outside.

After powering up the Linksys, the other computers can see the Linksys router wirelessly. I’ve plugged the Linksys router from its Internet slot to one of the ADSL2 router’s LAN slots just to experiment, but it’s not working. I’m pretty sure I need a crossover cable to do router to router.

My question is: is this possible? Do I need something else? Do I need to specifically buy a DSL wireless router?
* By the way, the goal is to get all the computers online on the Internet. I’ve done this with my cable modem, but never messed around with DSL. With a cable modem, I just run the cable modem directly to a wireless router. With DSL, I thought it would be the same, except the ADSL2 router is not a modem–it’s obviously a router as well.

mba admissions
