Among the many video containers at Matroska or MKV extension is one of the best, this new format was launched back in 2002 and currently an open source project which is available to anyone. Compared to other video containers MKV doesn’t actually stand for something, it is often referred to as the Matroska multimedia container.

Matroska is an English word which is derived from the Russian word “matryoshka” which makes reference to an egg shaped doll within a doll, in the case of digital media this would represent media within the form of media which doesn’t necessarily make much sense however, it is used to represent the flexibility and capability of this container.

When it comes to video transcoding the word “container” is best suited to describe what Matroska can do, this open-source project was developed in order to handle multiple video tracks which can have an amazingly high bit rate which can be compared to high-definition video and even Blu-ray quality.

The video extension used for Matroska projects is .MKV and audio projects use the .MKA extension which can handle MP3, OGG and Vorbis streams. The Matroska video streams usually carry the H.264 video compression method, it may also use ACC/AC3/DTS for audio streams.

Because of the many video and audio streams this particular container can handle there are not many players which can read and decode this format. Arcos is the brand of one of the first products which was able to read this form of digital media and due to its increasing popularity it is expected that more media players would be able to handle MKV.

This multimedia format is very popular among the anime community because it was originally used to rip video streams from DVDs which had subtitles and different audio tracks, the AVI extension is also heavily used to share such content but the only difference is that AVI extensions need hard coded or external subtitles. When it comes to software, many applications are able to read the format either, this race at the much popular Windows media player can’t handle such extensions, in order to solve this problem several video players which can read MKV files have been created, some examples are: the VLC player, the Core, to BS player, media player classic, virtualDub MOD, the Xbox media Center, and many others.

Joann Cheong asked:

Summary: Car alarms have integrated the latest technology into the car alarm system. So, how does it work? Car alarm is an everyday occurrence; you just get to see it everyday. When an approximate of one car gets carnapped every 20 seconds, it is common occurrence indeed. Car alarms, in an effort to get ahead of car burglars, have integrated the latest affordable technology into the car alarm system. So, how does it work?

The first documented case of car theft was as early as 1896, only a decade after the Otto gasoline powered automobile was patented by Karl Benz of Germany. To combat this situation, car alarm systems are installed on automobile doors. So the first ever car alarm system was typically a car door alarm. But with todays cars, its much more sophisticated. Car alarm systems have sensors that go off every time a panel is opened the panels can be the doors, the hood or the trunk. These sensors are actually voltage that travels around the vehicle including doors, trunk and hood. If this circuit is broken by forced opening of a panel or a voltage dropped due to interference with the electrical system, the alarm goes off.

Car windows are also one focal entry point for thieves. Most occasions they just bust the windows and hot rod the car; quite effective, too. New glass technology made it possible for glasses to withstand an amount of bashing. Glass reinforced with plastic is commonly use. One common window sensor is a breaking sound detector. The sound of breaking glass has its unique sound frequency that the system detects, and if triggered releases a full alarm siren.

Another car alarm feature is the shock sensor. The early models are two horizontal charged rods of metal which if the car is disturbed, will sway and touch each other completing the circuit and setting the car to alarm. There are difficulties with this though. Every time the car is disturbed, the alarm goes off no matter the cause. Slight disturbances like a slight weight shift from an individual leaning on the hood can cause full car alarm. Recent models are released, like Randall Woods shock sensor which, by its construction, is more falsealarm proof.

So concisely most modern car alarm systems include a range of pressure sensors that are electrical conduits all around the chassis that goes off when the circuit is severed. By opening a door or a trunk, the electricity is severed and full alarm goes off. Car glasses are made more resistant to bashing. Also, the system includes a glassbreaking detector that goes off to the frequency of breaking glass.

Since 1896, car thievery was second to none most rampant thievery cases every year. Getaway vehicle, easy to break in, always in demand, and with a little bit of repainting can attract any interested buyer. But with the present state of the art technology, car alarm systems can stay up ahead with thievery.

There is a ton of high definition capable components in the electronic entertainment world now and the people who buy these need to have the best support for them. These consumers sometimes don’t think about the AV cables between these components, but if you don’t use the best connectors it doesn’t matter how high tech your toys are. If you use the same old analog cables to hook them up you’ll not see the quality increase you’re expecting.

The lack of performance of the old style analog cables, like composite and component cables, is because when they transmit the data stream to the TV it’s compressed which creates a lesser sound and picture quality. In contrast the HDMI cables present a digital alternative, they don’t compress the signal at all so there’s fabulous high quality pictures and audio.

Most of the newer electronics like game consoles, i.e. XBOX 360 and Playstation 3, and entertainment pieces like Blu ray players, DVR’s and HD cable boxes have used the HDMI format since it was released to consumers in 2003. The capability of HDMI allows us to see true high def resolutions of 480p, 720p, and the awesome 1080p. As it grows there are now newer releases of this cable which can handle 40p, 1600p and 2160p capable resolutions. Another special feature is the HDMI is backward compatible with standard Digital Video Interface, DVI, which are present on most modern video cameras and computer monitors.

For the audiophile, there is the Toslink cable or Optical cable, which is a high quality digital optical connection for audio devices. Digital Optical inputs can be found on many recent audio devices such as MiniDisc recorders, DAT recorders, and high-end disc players. It is also increasingly being included on newer computers such as Apple’s Unibody Macbook line of laptops.

The way the signal moves through the system, digital signal in an uncompressed state, is similar for the Toslink as the HDMI cables. This results in pure high quality audio output, great for sound editing and playback because there’s a full sound spectrum with no loss due to compression. Both the HDMI and Toslink are the best and should be used if someone wants to see and hear the capability of their components.

Rick Parrott asked:

Your customer data is a precious resource that can literally be worth its weight in gold! If used properly, it can be mined over and over for additional sales and referrals. Do you use this gold mine to increase the profitability of your business?

You should! It can mean the difference between business survival and failure.

Why then do so few business owners take the time to ensure that it is adequately protected? Are we too busy? Perhaps you just didn’t know how to protect it, or couldn’t afford the software and hardware required to back up your data correctly.

Ask yourself these questions:

Is there anything more important to my business than my customer data? What would happen to my business if I were to loose all of my data?

Consider this common scenario. A client calls frantic that she’d loose her business if she couldn’t recover her customer data. She had over five years of information on her computer when the hard drive decided to make her life interesting.

So what are her choices? Renter the data manually, if she has any hard copies available. Call everyone and ask for their contact information again, won’t that make them feel secure about her company. Or call a data recovery technician. Their services can start at a thousand dollars and go up rapidly from there!

Windows XP provides a fully functional backup utility, for free! In fact, many of the commercial backup products use this backup to save the data. All you are paying for is the user interface, the window you enter information into.

Before you run the setup wizard, you need to answer a few questions.

What data do I need to backup?

Only backup data that is necessary. Use the KISS (Keep It Simple Silly) method. Your customer database and correspondence should be backed up as a minimum.

How often do I want to back up my data?

How often does your customer data change? Does a significant amount of data change on a daily basis? Weekly?

Where do I want to store my data backup?

Most data backups still use a tape drive to store the data. The problem is that they cost a fortune! The tapes alone are expensive. Alternatives are to store your data backup on another computer on your network or copy it to a CD or DVD writable disk.

Ok, so you want to backup your data. What now? Before we do that review the table below:

Full Backup

Copies and stores a complete duplicate of your data every time it runs. Takes the most time to run and the most storage space. Quickest data recovery feature. Easiest!

Incremental Backup

Copies and stores only data changed since the last backup. Must be combined with a full backup, and any other incremental backups. Most complicated.

Deferential Backup

Copies and stores data changed since the last full backup. Must be combined with a full backup and the last deferential backup. Middle of the road.

If you have a relatively small amount of data, I would suggest a daily full backup. If you have a larger amount of data you might combine the full backup with a deferential backup. Simple huh?

The next question is how to store the data backup. Even though it takes a little extra work, I have my clients back their data up to a DVD writable disk. First, set the wizard to back the data up to a folder. Usually this folder is on another computer. Then burn this data to a DVD burner and place the disk it in a secure location for retrieval as necessary.

If you don’t feel comfortable setting this up yourself, any competent PC technician can do it for you.

Whether you do the setup yourself or have it setup by a professional technician you are taking the first step in ensuring the long term survival of your business. Please take the time to do this.

Ultimately your customers don’t care how or why you lost their information, they just care that you did. I’ll leave you with this statistic:

Estimates suggest that 80% of small businesses that suffer a serious computer failure cease trading within two years. Will yours be one of them?

Jeremiah Slivka asked:

The trend that the Apple company set for their packages is redefined with every new appearance of a product. Actually, the permanent search in finding the right package and aesthetics and adapting the box to both the product and the customers` needs is focused on discovering a more compact way of packaging and, at the same time, with an expressive, yet subtle artistic touch. Due to the characteristics of the product, the packaging of the video iPod tries to be both practical and aesthetic, in order to symbolize somehow the visual characteristics and quality of the new product.

The original package of the iPod was a 6″ cube box. The box was supposed to be removed out of the sleeve, after which, it was unfolded as a flower. The first iPod package reflected the image that the company was trying to promote: exuberant style, expressive elements, brisk and intense colors and sounds. After the appearance of the next types of iPods, this image of the product changed into a more mature one, an image which was expressed through the campaigns, the package and the general design of the product.

The main color of the iPod video is plain black, which is rather risky, yet original, considering the fact that the main aspect that the device has is the video, meaning colors, motion and diversion. Still, there are various silver accents on the box, which represent the Apple logo and text. Still, the color of the box fits with the colors of the actual iPods: black and white, just like the iPod nano. By choosing these colors and this style of packaging, Apple wanted to create a more sophisticated and stylish look of the new product; together with this, the ads for the product changed to a more series and mature tone.

The shape of the box differs, as well, from the first flower-like box of the first generation of iPods: this iPod`s video box is rather flat and square, more stylish and more serious looking. Actually, this box works as a sleeve, as well, with one open end, similar to a DVD box set, but it also contains another inner box, which is very well fixed inside. The inner box opens in 2 distinctive parts: one part contains the iPod device and the other contains a monolith.

The package lacks a manual guide (still, it has a small Quick Start Guide); instead, it has a CD which contains all the needed usage instructions of the iPod video. Besides these, the box contains a relevant and think copyright statement and a protective sleeve for the actual iPod. The CD which contains the instructions displays an appropriate PDF file that suits any computer, using the languages English, French, German, Japanese and Chinese. Another inside package contains an USB adapter cable and the ear buds; this type of iPod has even smaller ear buds, which need to be protected while opening the box.

The new product iPod video has, besides various improvements in the technical department (among which, the video feature is the most relevant one), another package, another image and way of presentation. The new package manages to remain practical, yet it becomes safer. Besides these, the new package offers a more sophisticated and elitist image of the product, concentrating on refined touches and neutral colors.

Andrew clinton asked:

Many miss the point in attributing technological breakthroughs solely to the Information Age. In fact, most of the world’s unprecedented discoveries occurred in the Baby Boomer period when people escalated in number and economic output.

Among the myriad of scientific innovations that the recent age benefits from, is in the field of energy or power consumption. The baby boomer period has contributed significantly when, for the first time, it enabled electricity generation.

It was in USSR that the world saw the debut of the first nuclear power plant that produced electricity for a power grid, the electric capacity of which was around 5 megawatts. The project, which was initiated by the Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant, came eight years following the start of the boomer year in 1946 and was shortly followed in the later years.

The United Nations, still in its formative stage, held its “First Geneva Conference” in 1955 to tackle the nuclear power issue. A large host of scientists and engineers adept at nuclear technology pursued initiatives to further scientific exploration. The combined efforts of world players led to the establishment of relevant global nuclear energy participants.

Two years after the first UN convention, EURATOM was established together with the European Economic Community, which is now known as the European Union; manifesting the increasing significance of nuclear power, an issue that was a sure-fire topic to be discussed in the years to come with the creation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 1957.

Nuclear power stations began to flourish in the 1950s starting with the world’s first commercial nuclear power station in Sellafield, England— Calder Hall. When the station opened in 1956, it only had the capacity of 50 MW but it later managed to have a 200 MW capacity. In the United States, the nuclear power trend found its support with the foundation of Shippingport Reactor, the first commercial nuclear generator launched in 1957 and based in Pennsylvania.

When nuclear power was developed, the U.S. Navy first saw the opportunity of tapping into the promises of nuclear power for propelling submarines and aircraft carriers.  Even Admiral Hyman Rickover, credited for the nuclear marine propulsion, was actively engaged in the Shippingport Reactor.

The electricity generated from nuclear power was one of the finest legacies left by the boomer period. With the sophisticated technology and the incredible human resources today, it is likely for us to maximize the benefits of nuclear power and continue what the preceding generations have started.

Ok fellow boomers. How many of you remember our classroom drill where we were instructed to protect ourselves from an atomic attack by hiding under our desks? Hmm, that would have been very effective.

Do you have a personal memory of the Cold War and the introduction of nuclear energy? We’d love to hear. Come share it with others at boomeryearbook.com

According to Thomas R. Cutler, a manufacturing journalist who profiled Systematix and its selection of Encompix ETO ERP in Canadian Machine Tool Dealer Magazine, “It seems the only constant in the manufacturing sector is change, and Systematix has seen major changes in the past two years.”

Waterloo, Ontario-based Systematix, a world class designer and manufacturer of factory automation machinery, including specialty robotic assembly and test systems for the plastics, electronics, window and door, and automotive industries, has seen tighter margins and shorter lead times. In the absence of good cost control and financial reporting, the company began a search for enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.

“I was pretty much helpless. I decided the highest priority was to put in place tools that could get us accurate and timely financial information, and we quickly zeroed in on Encompix,” said Richard Neidert, president of Systematix. The firm went live in June, 2005, and reports having greater data visibility than in the past. The company also has seen significantly improved accountability. With more timely financial information, Niedert is able to hold his product managers more accountable for keeping their bids up-to-date and tracking estimate-to-complete information. According to Cutler, managing to the bottom line is absolutely critical. “With margins as thin as they are today, any company that doesn’t carefully manage its resources will not be successful,” he said.

About Encompix

Encompix (www.encompix.com) a business unit of Made2Manage Systems, has filled the manufacturing software requirements of engineer-to-order companies since 1992. The best thing about solar power is that it has an unlimited potential. Learning how to build solar power is easy. You just need to know how to make your own renewable energy source and today I am going to tell you exactly how to go about building solar power.

If you want to learn how to build solar power, you’ll need to learn some basics on how exactly do solar panels work. This way, the entire procedure will be much easier to handle.

The process starts with solar modules. They are the main components exposed directly to sunlight. Their main function is to convert the sun’s energy into usable electrical power for your home appliances. To get them correctly installed, solar modules are to be mounted on a steel frame and positioned on your roof top.

Power produced by the solar modules is converted from Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC) through a inverter. Usually, Alternating Current (AC) is the usable electrical power that we need to power the home appliances.

Next, the electrical power transfers from the inverter to the electrical service panel. The electrical service panel is used for distributing the electrical power to different parts of your house or office for use.

The unused electrical power produced by the solar panels will then be brought into the grid all the way through the utility electric meter. As a result, the meter will be made to spin backwards and this establishes a credit with the utility company in offsetting future usage. This method is known as Net Metering and is completely approved by State Level Electricity Policy.

Learning how to build solar power isn’t really a difficult task. You don’t require many skills beyond being able to handle wiring & basic tools with care and safety measures.

The components needed for constructing solar panels include:-

1.    Solar Cells

2.    Sheet Plywood

3.    Copper Wire

4.    General Tools (Drills, screwdrivers, woodwork glue etc)

5.    Clear PVC Sheeting

All these components can be easily picked up by you from the local hardware store. Photovoltaic cell is the only component that you might have to search online and it can be found easily on eBay.

Quality directions that are easy to follow are vital to find when trying to build your own solar panels. This will make the building process less stressful and make you happier that you made the choice to do it yourself. Online is just one of the places you are able to find some of these manuals. We have reviewed the best guides available to help you to learn how to build your own solar panel system for electricity. Go ahead and check them out NOW……learn how to build solar power and STOP paying for electricity…FOREVER!
