HID installation trouble shooting and solution

1. Questions: The HID kit work normally after installation, but the instrument panel display “warning”.

(For example: Audi A4 1.8T, 06 BMW, near Sagitar, Mai Tang, Rui-ming, Fox, near Volvo, Peugeot 206, etc.)

Principle: The original car is 50W to 60W, but the HID kit is 35W, some luxury cars have the On-Board PC Diagnostics system (EOBD System), and the EOBD will detect the “power does not match”, So bring on the “warning” or radiation interference when light turn on.

Solutions:

Using the special relay harness with resistance (25W) can solve the problem, 25W+35W,it is just 60W, the power match with the cars, then the kit will pass the EOBD check. Replacing the 50W bulb and 50W ballast, it also can solve the problem. Using special ballast; install the anti-jamming device

2. Questions: After installation, the car PC panel damaged by the electromagnetism interfere circuit.

For example: Buick LaCrosse, Buick Lu respect, the modern Royal Cheung Premium, coupe, Grand Cherokee

Principle: The car use a special electronic circuit board, it is susceptible to interfere, After install HID kit, the circuit board easy damage or light “flicker” or go out.

Solutions:

It is solved by the special ballast with the Dedicated circuit configuration. install the anti-jamming device

3. Questions: after installation the bulb will appear the hard flashing, or often off, or the two bulbs not bright at the same time and so on.

For example: 06 BMW X5, 3251,5201, Mercedes-Benz S350, S500, Land Rover, BMW 3 Series, etc.

Solutions:

Show headlamps current line of work are normal. Adding install the special decoder which solve the hard flash and lacking of current. Has been successfully resolved the case:

A, Ford B, Skoda C, the general public from Yu D, Sagitar E, Mai Tang

3. Show headlamps line whether there is traffic through the computer, if passing ,decoders needed to be dedicated in order to return to normal. (The company Mercedes-Benz, BMW and other special decoder)

4. Questions: Because of H4 H/L is the light need match with dozens of headlamps assembly, the difference of lampshade will make the difference focus effect, so it is possible that the low beam or high beam will astigmatism after installation, please communicate with driver and tell the turth.

Such as:1. Polaris own the bad focus, it is suggest that replacing the assembly or special Polaris H/L from the factory.

Hyundai Tucson, it must use the special H/L which own the shortest base. Old GL8, Mitsubishi, Pajero, Swifts, Blue bird all being astigmatism, must use special H4 H/L bulb.

5. Questions: The light detect circuit of 07 and 08 S350 MBZ,BMW 5 classic and 7 classic are the lasted kits, it would be better to install the special 50w bulbs and anti-interference ballast.

6. Questions: After installed the hid system ,when turn on the auto radio, there have the single interference problem while the lights in on.

Principle:the frequency singles in the hid ballast and auto radio are  incompatible .Sometimes the direction of the installed ballast also can lead to this problem.

Solution: Change the ballast position or adjust the ballast install direction can resolve the problem in some condition. Only shielded the ballast can resolve the single interference problem.

7. Questions: Just installed the HID system and everything works out fine with system ,but lately, it cann’t change light between high beam and low beam. After checking ,found the high beam fuse was blown. But the problem still up after changed the fuse when turn on the light.

Principle: Short circuit

Solution :

Firstly, Check the circuit carefully see weather there is any coating broken , disconnected ,connection wiring covered by the plasters or not and connected in the right line or not ,then remove and install a new ballast ,test and see weather still consist in the short circuit. If all above is fine then change the factory harness.

8. Questions: Some car moldes’ high beam after turn on for 10s ,one is on and the other is off.

Principle : Well,it occurred because of low current .As HID ballast need 8.5A or so to get start(then clam down to 3.5A or so in 1 or 2 min.),but most car original headlight circuit current was designed between 5.5A and 6.5A ,this bring the low current so that only 1 set HID  can get enough start current ,then the left 1 set is off .This situation would happened in some high-ends cars .

Solution :

add 1 set reply circuit, get the current directly from the car battery. Check the connect between ballast 12v input end and socket see weather there is any loose .The connect loose can lead to HID light in a low current when the car is running and shaking ,when the car is uphill and down hill for example. HID light is High Intensity Discharge Lamp , The ballast have an increase of high pressure protection circuit ,when in the abnormal situation , the ballast works fine but this kind of problem still insisted .Please feel free to send back the ballast to us for check and test .

9. Questions: Just installed a H4 H/L moving kit , one work ,the other doesn’t work but can moving.

Principle :This could happen when the grand connect condition is not good , Bad plug wire or Power Input Plug and Play in the wrong way.

Solution :Change the plug to the anti way.

10, Questions:  Hyundai Coupe, after installed HID kit, start up engine and turn on the light, the light will “flicker” or go out; But turn off the engine, then turn on the light, the light work normally.

Principle: After installed HID kit, the HID light can work normally when the engine turn off. Once start up the engine, the light will “flicker” or go out, the car gauges set’s displayed failure light at the same time. The reason is auto Headlamp control line need passed the “check” by car PC system, however the HID work principle and work power is different to Halogen lamp, so the “check” can’t get any signal of the HID kit, let’s the check failure.

Solution: Our company have design a specail Auto PC check relay harness, can be match with HID kit.

11, Questions: PASSAT, after installed the HID kit, the Auto CD audio will pause when change High beam and Low beam, why?

Priciple: The reason is the pulse-frequency which arise from start up the HID kit is same as car’s frequency, the pulse-frequency make the car receive wrong signal, bring on the CD audio is pause.

Solution: Our company was design a special ballast for the car electric PC system, the problem can be solve after install it.

12. Questions:  the lamp stock of BUICK EXCELLE is too small to put the bulbs in. how can I solve this problem?

Solution: Just drill the lamp stock to a bigger one ( Note: pls drilling with your hands pill the drill out, in case the residual powder would caused unnecessary trouble.

13. Questions:  Why the Low/high light can be lighted up but is unable to change reciprocally after I installed the Bi-xenon HID light on the Mazda M6?

Principle: this is resulted from faults in the electrical circuit.

Solution: firstly, check the circuit of the original headlights and the circuit of the input power of the ballast; if there is no problem with them. Then pls check out whether the fuse in harness and the car have been disabled by fusing. If all things go well, then pls just change the connector plugs, coz the connector plugs may be plugged-in in a wrong way

14. Questions:  How to adapt the light?

Solution: Firstly, park the car evenly about 10 meters away from the wall with its head right towards it (tips: you can make a note to ensure the accurate distance)

Note: To adapt the light, the car should be under the normal load standard without any additional load.

2. Turn on the light, pls notice the aperture which was projected on the wall, that is the basis for adapting. The distance from the midpoint between the two lights to the front tread  should be the same with the distance projected on the wall. Otherwise, the progress of adapting will have to be carried out according to the 3rd step;

The distance between the central point of the right light to the ground should be the same with the distance between the central point of the right light to the projected shape on the wall. While, the distance between the central point of the left light should be 10CM higher than the that.

     3. adapting them in the same line. The light on the left should project straight forward, on the other hand, the light on the right can project to the right slightly. Coz it can brighten the road on the right hand and make you see more clearly especially it is foggy.

     4. pls cover one of the light with a piece of thick cloth so as to adapt effectively according to the changes of the light beam projected from one of the light. To do this, you will have to prepare 2 screwdrivers (one for adapting the height of light beam, and the other one for adapting the width of it)

15. Questions:  How to inspect the bulb be lighted up and what is the solution if it is unable to be lighten up?

Solution: The several reasons for why the bulbs can not be lighted up: the accumulator?ballast or bulb isn’t working anymore?the cable of power supplier or fuse is broken?imperfect connection with the power supplier? misconnecting with the poles of power supplier. According to these reasons, we can eliminate one by one.

check whether the bulb is workable.

If it is the problem with the bulb, the bulb will let out noise when it is connected with power (sometimes, there will be electrical sparkle inside of the bulb). If the ballast doesn’t let out any noise, that means the problem doesn’t lies in the bulbs.

check whether the ballast is workable.

start up the whole system with another ballast. If the bulb doesn’t light on, that means the ballast is unworkable.

check whether the poles is misconnected.

Connect the poles the other way around, if the bulb still doesn’t light on, that means the problem doesn’t lies on this point.

check whether the fuse is disabled due to fusing.

This inspection can be carried out directly with your eyes, or with the help of a universal electric meter after pulling the fuse down.

check whether the accumulator is workable.

Replace another accumulator to see whether the bulb can light on. If the can not still, that means there is no problem with accumulator.

if it is still unable to check out the key problem after all the steps mentioned above, pls check the hook-up wire. Make sure all of them is correctly connected without any looseness on the point of connection. change another hoop-up wire

Janet Bugby asked:

You will be very familiar with treacherous driving conditions if you live in a country that experiences harsh winters. During the winter, snow and ice on the roads cause driving conditions that can be dangerous for even the most experienced drivers. The danger can be reduced considerably by fitting appropriate snow chains to your vehicle when these conditions occur.

Before purchasing snow chains read your manual and find out if snow chains can be safely used on your vehicle. The manual will also tell you the correct size to purchase. Also find out the regulations for your country or state as they can vary considerably. Once you have purchased your snow chains practice putting them on as this can be awkward, especially the first time, and you will be much better practicing in your driveway with the sun shining than on a cold road in the dark.

Snow Chain Types

The most economical snow chains are cable chains and these are recommended for all front wheel drive vehicles. Steel rollers give increased traction and give the maximum clearance between the tire and the wall of the fender. They are also very lightweight. If your vehicle has very little clearance, twist link chains will be better. Highway chains are recommended for vehicles with maximum clearance of the wheel well as they are heavier and more durable. One make you could consider is Road King as the square link design gives minimal vibration, which will give a more comfortable ride. Sno Grip chains, which also have a square link design, give excellent traction which helps with cornering and stopping. V-bar chains are heavy duty chains meant for snow clearing vehicles.

Putting on the Snow Chains

Do not deflate the tires to make them easier to fit. They should always be fitted to tires at their normal pressure. Make sure the car is in gear and parking brake is engaged before you start. Put the chain on the tire, holding it at the top, and make sure it is placed evenly. You will not be able to place the bottom part on the tire at this point. For chains with rings make sure the open connection is at the bottom of the tire. After you have placed the chain with the ring on the inside of the wheel the bottom of the ring can be connected. You might have to get down right under the car to do this.

Now drive forward a few feet, enough to expose the rest of the tire, stop and engage the parking brake. go back to the tire and finish fitting the chain. Tighten the chains. Now drive about a hundred feet, stop again and go back and re-tighten the chains. Now you are ready to drive with your snow chains.

Strap on Emergency Snow Chains

In an emergency strap on chains can be used. They are meant for short distances only or to help move a vehicle that is already stuck. On roads where snow chain use is mandatory they may not be legal. In an emergency they provide good traction and are very easy to install although they can only be attached to slotted wheels. Use them in pairs, attached to either both rear or both front tires.

Cooper Miller asked:

When you have some heavy duty metal that needs cutting, and a regular power saw is not up to the job, then the first place to turn is an air shear. This powerful air tool is designed to be used when you need a precision cut through the thickest metal without having to use sophisticated milling equipment.

An air shear works by using the compressed air feed in your workshop to power a motor within the hand held tool. In turn, this forces a blade to move thousands of times per minute in order to cut through whatever is pushed into it. Air shears work like incredibly powerful scissors, only they cut through things a lot tougher than sheets of paper.

Provided you have used a power cutter before, actually using an air shear is quite a straightforward task. As with all metal work, you do need to take some sensible precautions before you start. It is absolutely essential to wear safety glasses, because it is entirely possible that the fast moving blade can shoot sharp splinters of steel and debris out of the cutting area, and these can cause a lot of pain and damage if they get into your eyes.

Safety should always be paramount when cutting with a powerful tool like an air shear, and it is absolutely essential to make sure that your work area is completely tidy before you start. This prevents you from accidentally cutting through something such as a power cable when you are doing the work.

You should always mark out the area of metal that you are planning to cut before you start, leaving enough excess to allow you to file off any sharp edges and unevenness that you leave when you cut.

When cutting with an air shear, it is important to move at a steady pace through the metal. It can sometimes feel as though the blade is getting away from you and that you need to cut faster, but by keeping steady you will end up with a much better finish, and avoid getting into trouble.

Because most of the time you will be preparing panels for body work when using air shears, getting an excellent finish is essential, and this means being well practiced in getting the right result, so spend time learning how to cut effectively and efficiently with an air shear before you start on the real thing. Every different tool will have slightly different characteristics when you use it, so try cutting a few lines and curves on some scrap metal before you begin to use the tool on an actual job.

Typically, you will pay around $175 for a professional standard air shear. The kit will normally include everything you need to connect the tool straight into your existing compressed air feed and start work. A good example to consider when purchasing your air shears is the CPT785S from Chicago Pneumatic. These shears feature a powerful ? horsepower motor that has enough torque to avoid any stalls midway through a job, and will reliably cut through anything up to 18 gauge steel with a minimum of fuss. Despite weighing only two and a half pounds, which makes it easy to use and hold for long periods, this air shear has a blade that moves at up to 2,400 strokes per minute, which means that cutting through even the toughest material is easy.

When using your air shear, you still find that getting the right shape will often mean making multiple cuts, as the tool is generally unable to cut curves until the scrap has been removed, although with practice and forethought, excellent results are possible every time you use it.

Solar panels make use of renewable energy from the sun. They are a clean and environmentally sound means of collecting solar energy. Solar panel is a photovoltaic module or photovoltaic panel which is a packaged interconnected assembly of photovoltaic cells, also known as solar cells. The photovoltaic module, known more commonly as the solar panel, is then used as a component in a larger photovoltaic system to offer electricity for commercial and residential applications. Because a single photovoltaic module can only produce a certain amount of wattage, installations intended to produce larger electrical power capacity require an installation of several modules or panels and this is known as a photovoltaic array. You’ve probably seen calculators that have solar cells, calculators that never need batteries, and in some cases don’t even have an off button. As long as you have enough light, they seem to work forever. You may have seen larger solar panels on emergency road signs or call boxes, on buoys, even in parking lots to power lights. Although these larger panels aren’t as common as solar powered calculators, they’re out there, and not that hard to spot. There are solar cell arrays on satellites where they are used to power the electrical systems.

Photovoltaic cells are made of special materials called semiconductors such as silicon, , when light strikes the cell, a portion of it is absorbed. This means that the energy of the light goes to the semiconductor. This energy knocks electrons loose, allowing them to flow freely. PV cells have electric fields that force electrons freed by the absorbed light to flow in a specific direction. This flow is a current which can be used externally. Pure silicon is a poor conductor of electricity because electrons are not free to move about. A solar cell has silicon with impurities . These impurities have a purpose. Consider silicon with an atom of phosphorous here and there, maybe one for every million silicon atoms. Phosphorous has five electrons in its outer shell, not four. It still bonds with its silicon neighbor atoms , the phosphorous has one electron that is left alone . It doesn’t form part of a bond, but there is a positive proton in the phosphorous nucleus holding it in place. When energy is added to pure silicon, for example in the form of heat, it can cause a few electrons to break free of their bonds and leave their atoms. A hole is left behind . These electrons then move freely around the crystalline lattice looking for another hole . These electrons are called free carriers, and can carry electrical current. There are so few of them in pure silicon, however, that they aren’t very useful. Our impure silicon with phosphorous atoms mixed in is a different story. It turns out that it takes a lot less energy to knock loose one of our “extra” phosphorous electrons as a result, most of these electrons do break free, and we have a lot more free carriers as compared to pure silicon. This process of adding impurities is called doping. This process is the base for the working of a photovoltaic cell which forms a solar panel.

Richard Trent asked:

For vehicles made after 1996, retrieving the codes of the check engine light in your dash panel is simple. All you need to do is find your diagnostic connector located under the dash by the driver side. You can then hook up a scanner and the codes will be displayed for you. If you don’t have any scanner like most drivers, you can bring your vehicle to any local automotive parts store and they will usually scan the codes FREE for you. However, for vehicles made on or before 1995, there is only one cheap way to get it: You do it yourself!

On board diagnostic (OBD) was designed on vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection so you can generally retrieve the codes yourself. No need buying a scanner or running to any parts stores to check the engine light. This system is called obd1 and applies to most vehicles made before 1995 for domestics and 1993 on imports. In this article, I will discuss the methods used by domestic vehicle manufacturers on how to check the engine light codes in their cars and trucks.

For GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the check engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or a paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if there are no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes.

Ford owners can check their check engine light using the diagnostic connector located at the engine compartment by the fender near the battery. Getting the obd1 codes need a couple of tools: a 4 inch long gage 16 jumper wire and a 12 volt test light.

Both tools are hooked up to the diagnostic connector and when the ignition key is turned on (without starting engine) the codes will begin to flash in the test light, not in the dash panel. If there is no code, you will normally get code 11 or 111. On Fords, there are 2 test modes, the KOEO (key on engine off) and the KOER (key on engine running). Both test modes should be used to get the accurate evaluation of the stored fault codes.

Of all the 3 domestic vehicles, the easiest method to check the engine light is Chrysler products. Why? Because all you need is to turn the ignition key on and off a within 5 seconds and the codes will start to flash in the dash panel.

Counting the codes being flashed is almost the same for these 3 domestic vehicles and most of the codes can be erased or cleared by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 1 minute and reconnect. Just make sure to check your service manual in case you have electronic equipment such as radio or clock that needs reprogramming in which battery disconnection is not recommended. Finally after performing repairs on the culprit code, always go for a road test to confirm if the problem is fixed.

If you want a detailed way on how the above procedures are done, please visit my blog: http://check-engine-light-codes.blogspot.com . This blog offers free info on how to check engine light codes with OBD1 Codes Secrets for Domestic Vehicles

Many times most car owners think that their vehicle is worth more than it really is. As you drive on a day to day basis it does incur damage. Also a lot of times car owners simply get to busy to tend to the small things that need attention on their vehicle like washing it, waxing it, taking care of the inside, and also getting small auto body repairs completed. All of those things will have an effect on your vehicle. But through our day to day routine we sometimes overlook the small or maybe even bigger imperfections. That all seems to change when car owners go to sell their vehicle, because the people who are considering buying their vehicle or the dealership that is looking at it for trade in is looking specifically at those imperfections. So, how can you improve your vehicles resale value or maintain a high resale value?

You should first start by taking care of your vehicle on a regular basis. You should wash your car when it is dirty, and not just because it looks bad. The dirt can and will set into your vehicles paint over time of sitting on it and harm your vehicles paint job. Also you should be applying a coat of wax every time or every other time you wash your vehicle. The wax is put on to protect your vehicles paint from oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that occurs when oxygen meets with certain elements and reacts. This can happen with the paint on your vehicle without wax to protect it, and what you are left with is a dull looking paint job which no one wants. You should also be sure to take care of the inside of your vehicle by vacuuming regularly, putting a protective coat of your dash and console areas, spot cleaning any areas that need it, and simply being cautious with things like food, candy, drinks, cigarette and other such items. You can get a professional auto detailing to quickly improve the look of your vehicle, they will bring your vehicle as close to show room conditions as possible.

Next, if your vehicle has any auto body damage you should take it to an auto reconditioning shop to get it repaired. You would be surprised how many things could be repaired on your vehicle at an auto reconditioning shop. Auto reconditioning shops offer services like paint touch up, bumper repair, paintless dent removal, auto body repair, headlight restoration, windshield repair, interior repair, wheel rim repair and more. Most of the repairs listed above are quite affordable and can be completed quickly, usually within two to six hours. The auto reconditioning shops can repair your vehicles to where it will not even be noticeable that a repair was completed.

Lastly, if you really want to bump up the value of your vehicle and you have already taken care of the above mentioned items you may want to add a few upgrades. Windowing tinting and the 3M clear bra are great upgrades that will look great and protect the vehicle. Sometimes auto reconditioning shops will offer these services as well!

Make sure you get the most for your vehicle!

You’re driving along and suddenly your Check Engine Light comes on. What does it mean? Check Engine Light, Check Engine Soon Light, Service Engine Soon Light, Engine Light, Engine Management Light, “whatever” you want to call it, simply means that your vehicle’s computer system has detected a problem.

Depending on the year, make, and model, it may be related to the engine, the transmission, even the brakes and suspension. There are literally hundreds of reasons a Check Engine Light may appear. The following questions and answers discussion will clarify the truth about Check Engine Lights…

Service Engine Soon Light FAQ:

1) Can the car be driven?

The general rule is: if the Service Engine Soon Light is on, and the car seems to be running ok, you can drive it. However, you should have it checked at your earliest convenience.

If your vehicle is running poorly—bucking, stalling, hesitating, or you just don’t feel safe, tow it. When in doubt always tow it!

2) The check engine light went out by itself. Is it ok now?

Probably not. Check Engine Lights often come and go. Even if the light is out, your vehicle’s computer system will retain information that will allow the problem to be diagnosed. To avoid potential long term issues, get it checked out.

3) My check engine light stays on. What should I do?

If your check engine light stays on constantly, follow the instructions above, under “Can the car be driven?” Don’t panic.

4) Can I disconnect the battery, or pull a fuse to reset the service engine soon light?

Maybe, but I wouldn’t. Removing the battery cable or an ECM or PCM fuse may clear the code, but it is not universally recommended in the industry. Most manufacturers advise against it. See the Best Way to Reset Check Engine Light Codes below.

5) What is the Check Engine Light?

The Check Engine Light is a warning light for multiple systems operating in your vehicle. In simplest terms, it’s like an engine management warning light to alert you of a problem. Just like your computer pops up with an “error message window” saying that something’s wrong, your service engine soon light pops up to warn you that it has detected a malfunction: mechanical, technical, software, or otherwise.

6) How to Reset Check Engine Light?

This is a great question! I get it all the time. See the guide below.

Resetting Check Engine Light:

First, if your Check Engine Light is on, it’s on for a reason. The Check Engine Light indicates that your vehicle’s on-board computers have stored a fault code. There are hundreds of fault codes, any one or more could be stored in the computers memory.

Fault codes are critical for accurate diagnoses of the problem.

Sometimes the fault code points directly to a faulty component, allowing for a quick diagnoses and repair. Other times, the code may only indicate a problem circuit and thus extensive diagnostic procedures may be required.

By resetting the Service Engine Soon Light, it erases important fault code data that turned the check engine light on in the first place. Without this critical information, the root problem can not be discerned.

Unfortunately, there is no “universally” accepted way to safely turn off a check engine light. Even if there was, if the root problem is not addressed, it will come back on.

So whether it’s a Chevrolet Service Engine Soon Light, Camry Check Engine Light, Mighty Max Check Engine Light, or a 1993 Thunderbird Check Engine Light, they require individual procedures to diagnose, repair, and reset the check engine light code.

Following is a Safe and FREE way for resetting check engine light codes.

Best Way to Reset Check Engine Light Codes:

If you’re not interested in diagnosing your truck, SUV or car Check Engine Light, or it’s already fixed, and you just want the engine light out, visit any local repair shop. Most shops will have a universal Check Engine Light Code Reader that can quickly and safely reset, and check engine light trouble codes. It should take about 30 seconds.

Note: European models are better off with a specialist, and some older vehicles may require more time.

Here’s what to do:

Politely ask your local service center (ask a technician if you see one) if they could reset the check engine light with their Check Engine Light Code Reader. They may protest, arguing that the problem must first be diagnosed.

Tell the service representative that you understand fully, and that you appreciate his professionalism. But that you would just like to try resetting the Service Engine Soon Light, and if it comes on again, you’ll come back for a full diagnosis.

Be genuine. Service representatives respond positively to sincerity. If the service center wants to charge you just to reset your Service Engine Light, try another facility.

Alternatively, some parts store such as NAPA and AutoZone will reset your check engine light for free. Be wary of “diagnostic ideas” from parts representatives, however. Don’t let them sell you any parts to “try” to fix the problem.

IMPORTANT, check engine light repairs can be quite costly given their technical nature. Service centers can easily hide behind complex technical language to inflate the difficulty of your Check Engine Light concern.
